What is different about a household of five or more people

The benchmark puts every household of five or more people in one group, so a five-person house and an eight-person house share the same figure of about 8,470 kWh a year. Treat it as a broad comparison rather than a precise expectation for a large household.

In several regions the source data did not contain enough large households to model them separately, so the benchmark for four and five-plus people is identical. Where that is the case, the comparison is weaker than it is for smaller households, and we would put more weight on comparing your own bills year to year.
